The marketing of tobacco products in Canada: Increased advertising in 2008/09

In Canada, tobacco advertising and promotion are regulated by the Tobacco Act. The Act was passed in 1997, but amendments were introduced the following year to gradually phase out tobacco sponsorship promotion. The Act’s constitutionality was upheld by the Supreme Court of Canada in 2007 following a long legal battle initiated by the tobacco industry.
