Quit Smoking Savings Calculator

Last reviewed: October 27, 2026Next review due: April 2027

Key takeaways

Enter how many cigarettes you smoke a day and what you pay for a pack, and the calculator shows how much you keep after your quit date. Health Canada also lists health milestones that begin within 24 hours of quitting.

How the savings are worked out

You enter how many cigarettes you smoke per day, how many are in a pack and the price you pay for a pack. The calculator divides cigarettes per day by cigarettes per pack to get packs per day, then multiplies by the price to get the daily cost. That daily cost is what you keep for each day you do not smoke.

The tool shows the amount saved so far (using the number of days since your quit date), the number of cigarettes not smoked, and what you would keep in one month, one year and five years.

Use your real price

Prices differ by province, by store and by pack size. We do not insert a default price because we do not publish retail prices without an official or clearly documented source. Enter the price from your last receipt to get a figure that is true for you.

Money is only part of it

Health Canada lists several health milestones after quitting:

  • Within 24 hours, the risk of a heart attack begins to drop.
  • Within weeks, breathing gets easier and you cough less.
  • After one year, the risk of coronary heart disease is half that of someone who smokes.
  • After 10 to 15 years, the chance of getting cancer decreases by about half.

What the calculator does not include

The result is simple arithmetic. It does not add interest, inflation or price changes, and it does not subtract the cost of nicotine replacement products or prescription medication if you use them. Some provinces offer free help, so check free quit-smoking help by province before you buy anything.
